The Crossroads Story:
A Timeless Journey with God
Historical Highlights

On July 29, 1956 a group of fifteen people met to consider forming a Presbyterian Church. The Presbytery of Milwaukee granted their support and on November 25, 1956 a service of organization and dedication for 69 charter members was held at the home of Richard and Cloyce Savidge in Mequon, where Sunday worship services were being held.

In February, 1957, Reverend Paul Doedens was called as pastor and services were moved to Range Line School. Every Sunday members carried in supplies: pulpit and partitions, hymnals, Sunday school supplies, coffee pot and cups.

A year later, when the school could no longer be rented, services were moved to the Mequon City Hall where often the fire whistle would go off during worship. It was time to start thinking about building a church of our own!

On March 6, 1959, the first worship service took place in the new building and less than a year and a half later, it became necessary to add a second worship service. This was followed a year later, in the fall of 1960, with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new sanctuary - what we now know as the Great Room!

Over the next eleven years, two more building projects were completed - in 1969 the Mack Wing was added to the south end of the original building and the Fireside Lounge and Music Room were added in 1980 on the north end, to accommodate the growing congregation. Reverends Paul Hudson, Paul Bischoff, Chris Kohlbry, Richard Lonee, Lisa Larson and Peggy Vogelsinger all served Crossroads during Paul Doedens' tenure and contributed greatly to its growing ministries. Rev. Doedens retired in 1992, after 36 years of service.

Current History
On September 1, 1994, the Reverend L. John Gable and family began their ministry at Crossroads. Within their first year at Crossroads, contemporary worship was introduced along with Youth Club, our "mid-week miracle". Many other new programs were added over the next five years as worship attendance and membership continued to grow.

A visioning team was called in 1996 and our mission statement, "To Know Christ and Bring Others to Him" was adopted, along with a plan to build a new sanctuary and administrative space. On Easter, 2000, we worshipped for the first time in our new sanctuary!

During this time, Rev. Jeff Lincicome joined the Crossroads staff as Associate Pastor of Discipleship in 1999. Following Associate Pastor Dick Lonee's retirement in 2001, a search began and resulted in calling Rev. Barbara Jordan to join the staff as Associate Pastor of Congregational Care in 2002. God continued His work at Crossroads, and we continued to grow and the need for more program space became apparent resulting in the Christian 365 Capital Campaign and another building project!

The most recent building and renovation project was completed in September, 2004 which added much needed program space - the Christian Life Center, the Quiet Room, the SHED, a new kitchen and childcare area (resulting in the creation of the Crossroads' Christian Preschool).

In November 2007 Rev. John Gable left Crossroads and on April 1, 2008 the Rev. Dr. Terry Swicegood arrived from Arizona to begin leading Crossroads as Interim Senior Pastor.

In December 2008, Rev. Dr. Jeff Lincicome responded to a call as Senior Pastor, Sammamish Presbyterian Church in the Seattle area. In May 2009 Crossroads welcomes Interim Associate Pastor Beth Neel.

After a prayerful and diligent search, the Pastor Nominating Committee presented Rev. Dr. Tim Harrison as candidate as the third installed senior pastor at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in June 2009. With a unanimous congregational vote, Tim joined the Crossroads staff on September 1, 2009 and was installed on November 29, 2009.

We are now in the process of discerning where God is calling us to go in this next 50 years as our timeless journey with God continues...
