Children’s Worship

About Children’s Worship
Children’s Worship is offered year-round for children age 4 through grade 1 during Sunday worship at 9:00 a.m. Sign children up on the Children & Youth Information Form.

Children’s Worship is not an “education” class (although certainly the children are learning.) It is a worship service. Rather than teachers teaching, we have adult and youth worship leaders guiding children through an age appropriate worship time. Our ultimate goal is to have children participate in the sanctuary with the entire church family, having learned:

  • What it means to worship
  • How to worship
  • Why it’s important to worship

We desire our children to grow in their relationship with God through Jesus!

Each Sunday in Children’s Worship…
Our time together begins with either a large-group activity or song of praise and continues into a multi-sensory Bible story. The story is followed by a “wondering” time, allowing children to verbalize God’s work in their lives and respond to God. We’ll conclude back in the large group with a lit candle and the story read from Scripture, a prayer, and a departing blessing.

There is an emphasis on the church seasons, especially Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. Children’s Worship uses material originally developed by Sonja Stewart and Jerome Berryman, who were strongly influenced by Maria Montessori.

How to Participate
Children are welcome to get a nametag before going into the sanctuary with their parents; nametags are in the hallway outside the Praise & Plays room.

The service begins with the entire church family worshiping together. After the children’s message, parents are asked to escort their children age 4 through grade 1 to the Praise & Plays room to continue their worship experience. If children are staying for Sunday School, they may stay in the Praise & Plays room and be picked up by a parent/guardian after Sunday School. If not attending Sunday School, please pick children up promptly after worship.
